Happy International Women's Day!
International Women's Day on March 8th provides an important opportunity to celebrate women's achievements while calling for greater equality.
This year, we would like to take a minute to talk about a woman who is not only a leader and an inspiration to all of us at Find, but an absolute force to be reckoned with in the world of housing and Homelessness.
Susan McGee is the CEO of Homeward Trust, the organization leading Edmonton’s efforts to prevent and end homelessness in Edmonton. In 2009, Homeward Trust launched a Housing First Program that has helped more than 12,000 previously homeless individuals find a home, contributing to a 43% reduction in homelessness since 2016.
In addition to her professional work, Susan has been an active member of the community, volunteering on various committees and boards including the board of Canadian Housing and Renewal Association, the CHRA Indigenous Advisory Committee, Alberta Network of Public Housing Agencies (ANPHA), the Edmonton Community Foundation and others.
Susan received her B.Sc. in Architecture from Ryerson University, Toronto, and has an MBA through the Edinburgh Business School of Heriot-Watt University. She is a recipient of the Alberta Centennial Medal and the Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Susan was a leading force in starting Find: Furnishing Hope as a furniture bank in 2009 and has continued to help push Find to be the program it is today. The Find Boutique on Jasper was her vision realized in May of 2016 and we have seen it thrive in it's almost 4 years of operations.
Susan has made it her mission to end chronic homelessness in Edmonton and we are so proud to be part of her vision and to achieve this goal alongside her and the many other partners we have across this great city!
