FIND Edmonton is a social enterprise of Homeward Trust supporting those in need by providing affordable and accessible furniture for individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness through housing supports. Your donations directly help create comfortable, welcoming HOMES for people starting their journey out of homelessness.

Here are some tips on how to make a successful donation:

1. Confirm Donation Acceptance

• Visit the FIND Edmonton website or call the team at 780-988-1717 to confirm what items are currently accepted. FIND takes gently used furniture, small household items, small appliances and home goods, but some restrictions may apply.
• Items typically accepted: Sofas, dressers, chairs, tables, tv stands, apartment sized kitchen tables, small appliances, art and other quality home furnishings and home goods.
• Items not accepted: FIND cannot accept large appliances, mattresses, beds or items in poor condition. For other items that we cannot accept, please visit our website. 

2. Check Condition Requirements

• Good condition: FIND requests items in good, clean condition, free from stains, tears, or significant damage.
• Safety standards: Items should meet current safety standards. FIND does not accept broken or incomplete furniture, as it needs to be immediately usable for participants.
• Height and weight: Find cannot accept items that are taller or wider than 6ft and items that are very heavy for the safety of our team. 

3. Prepare Your Items For Donation

• Clean and inspect: Wipe down and clean items as needed. Double-check for personal items left in drawers or compartments.
• Disassemble if necessary: For large pieces, disassemble items to make them easier to transport. Please make sure all pieces are included so items can be rebuilt. Instructions are always appreciated!
• Don't over pack boxes/bags: When packing your donation boxes, remember that less is more. Overpacked boxes can be heavy, hard to move, and may damage your items. Here’s how to make your donations easy to handle:
  • Use smaller boxes: Smaller boxes are easier to lift and prevent items from shifting.
  • Distribute weight: Place heavier items, like books, in smaller boxes and lighter items, like clothing, in larger ones.
  • Leave room to close: Boxes that can close fully keep items secure and help us stack them safely
• Wrap glass & fragile items: bubble wrap or newspaper help keep items secure so they don't break during travel or packing. 
• Label clothing & electronics: Please carefully label items for Bissell Centre. It is also helpful to label electronics as "working" or "for recycling". This saves us time when processing items. 

4. Drop-Off Your Donations

• FIND accepts items at 5120 122 Street NW, Edmonton at the tent in the parking lot. Drop-off hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-6pm and Sundays from 12-5pm (from November to May). Please check the website before coming as hours can change.
• Please do not leave items outside of donation hours. Items left outside cannot be used.

5. Schedule A Free Pickup

• Arrange pickup: FIND offers free furniture pickup within Edmonton and area. You can schedule a pickup through our website or by calling 780-988-1717.
• Prepare for pick up:
  
  • Place items in an accessible area and make sure someone is available to meet the pickup team.
  • If you live in an apartment with an elevator, please make sure to book the elevator for your pick up.
  • Ice & snow: Please make sure walkways are cleared and safe for our team to walk on.
• Confirmation: FIND will confirm the scheduled time and provide any specific instructions ahead of pick up. Please note, pick up wait times may vary. 

6. Spread The Word!

• By donating, you're helping support FIND to furnish homes for individuals and families moving out of homelessness. Share your experience and encourage others to donate quality items to FIND as well!
