Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, announced this morning that Edmonton will be the recipient of $14.9M through the second round of funding through the Canada Mortgage & Housing Corporation's Rapid Rehousing initiative for 68 new units of Supportive Housing.
Mayor Don Iveson says that this initiative which is funded by the Government of Canada and CMHC "will help some of Canada's most vulnerable people and families at a time where people are really struggling due to the disproportionate impacts on vulnerable people of the pandemic".
Mayor Iveson is also asking the Provincial Government for $7.8M to support the wrap around services of these units and the housing programs in Edmonton.
These funds will help so many vulnerable individuals and families in Edmonton move out of homelessness with the support needed to stay successfully housed. We can end homelessness through housing and support and this funding brings us one step closer to that goal.
