The concept of 'World Homeless Day' emerged from online discussions between people working to respond to homelessness from various parts of the world.
The Inaugural World Homeless Day was marked on the 10th of October 2010.
The purpose of World Homeless Day is to draw attention to the needs of those experiencing homelessness locally and provide opportunities for the community to get involved in responding to homelessness, while taking advantage of the stage an ‘international day’ provides.
Find, as an organization, advocates and works to break down barriers of homelessness daily. We think you should do the same.
How can you get involved in ending homelessness in Edmonton?
There are so many amazing organizations looking for people to donate their time and share their skills. This can look like a lot of different things from serving meals, mentoring youth, helping with a donation drive or simply spending some time and building connections with people.
Community organizations are always looking for donations of all kinds. At Find, we love furniture and home goods, but other organizations need new socks/underwear, blankets, coffee gift cards, toiletries, food and some event seek financial donations. A good way to take your donation drive even further is to leverage your donation by getting others from your work, school, family or faith community to contribute as well.
