March 2020. What can we even say?
It has been a wild ride with many ups and downs.
The month started off strong with Housing First picks and the opportunity to attend the ROOPH Awards to celebrate some of the absolute best working to end homelessness and create affordable housing in Edmonton. And then we made the tough decision to close retail operations for the health and well being of our customers, clients and staff.
Despite the set backs, we are so proud to announce that we were able to continue with our Housing First program with little to no interruption, and, with your donations, we were able to furnish 131 homes, and helped house a total of 207 people (141 adults, 66 kids).
This is HUGE, folks.
"Housing has become the frontline defense against the Corona virus. Home has rarely been more of a life or death situation," says Leilani Farha, UN Special Rapporteur
We thank you for your support in helping get people off the the street, out of shelters, off of friend's couches and into their new homes where they are able to self isolate, practice social distancing and have a space to call their own. We are saving lives now more than ever because of the incredible kindness this city shows reguarly, but especially in times like these.
We appreciate the efforts of everyone on the frontline working to fight against this pandemic and are proud to be part of the solution to end homelessness and help our most vulnerable friends access their basic human rights.
We will continue to take donations for Housing First at our donation centre (5120 122 Street) Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm and Saturday 10am-5pm. We are closed on Sundays and holidays.
We are also happy to offer free, front door, contactless furniture pick ups. To schedule a pick up, please contact our dispatch team at 780 988 1717 or by visiting our website at https://findedmonton.com/pages/donation-form.
Let's keep up the good work, Edmonton!
Together, we will end chronic homelessness!
