Providing safe, comfortable and dignified homes is at the heart of what we do. That’s why we’re always looking for ways to strengthen the support we provide to individuals transitioning out of homelessness. One important part of that work? Ensuring every item we deliver or have for sale is clean, safe and free from pests.
This week, our team participated in specialized bed bug inspection training with Orkin Canada, one of the country’s leading pest control companies.
Led by Heidi, a seasoned expert from Orkin, the training covered everything from bed bug biology and behavior to proper inspection techniques and prevention strategies. Our staff learned how to recognize signs of bed bug activity, how to identify and safely handle affected items, and what steps to take to prevent cross-contamination — all knowledge that enhance our daily operations and increase the safety and comfort of our furniture packages.
“It’s not the most glamorous part of the job, but it’s one of the most important,” said Kennedy, an online store merchandizer. “This training helps us be more confident in the quality and cleanliness of what we’re giving to participants and community.”

The session included hands-on demonstrations with bug specimens and Dash, the bed bug sniffing dog, real-world scenarios and opportunities to ask questions specific to the types of furniture and household goods FIND handles every day. Our team walked away informed, empowered and equipped with the tools they need to identify and manage potential issues before they ever enter our warehouse.
We're incredibly grateful to Heidi of Orkin Canada for sharing their expertise and supporting our goal of ending homelessness. By investing in this kind of training, FIND continues to raise the bar on quality, safety, and dignity for every person and family we serve.
